Who We Are

Maisie
Founder & Owner
One early morning back in 2023, Maisie was walking her dog Oreo along the beach, she had an ambitious idea of opening a restaurant that Exmouth desperately needed, then immediately started designing the worn down function room above The Beach Pub into La Mar! In January 2024 we opened our doors and residents of Exmouth were blown away with what she had created! Maisie is an incredibly hard worker, great role model and friend to all of her staff across all 3 of her venues!
Charlie
Co-founder & Head Chef
Charlie has been friends with Maisie for years and has been by her side when they opened La Mar in January 2024, after obtaining their first rosette he is continuously searching for his next challenge, including expecting his first child in September 2026! He has been in kitchens for 20 years across the UK and Europe, developing his skills, recently demonstrated on TV!


Monika
Restaurant Manager
From keeping the chefs calm during a busy service, welcoming our diners, keeping your glass topped up, she really does hold La Mar together. Her bright smile, knowledge of food and drink, keeps you all coming back! In her spare time, she will be working on her boat projects with her husband or enjoying a long walk followed by a glass of wine.
Dave
Sous Chef
Born and bred on the South West coast, his love for seafood started at a young age, from fishing in his youth with friends, to cooking on the beach with his catch of the day. Dave brings tons of culinary talent to La Mar and working with Charlie to raise the bar for our diners, keeps things fresh and exciting!


Kerrie
Bar supervisor
The face you will see behind the bar, running the shift in the restaurant, working hard when we're closed to get the restaurant looking perfect when we open - she is a woman of many talents. We're pretty sure she likes dogs too! Kerrie loves the outdoors and spends most of her time exploring Devon or jetting off somewhere sunny!
Jude
Junior Sous Chef
Originally started pot washing for Maisie when he was 16, he then left to do his apprenticeship for a 1 Michelin Star restaurant. 3 years later, Jude returns with an extensive knowledge of fine dining, caring for the finest ingredients and plating them as if it was art. He loves fishing and foraging with his mates, keeping fit outdoors and gardening.


Ruben
Waiter
Our youngest member of the team, Ruben brings an entertaining dynamic to our team, keeping us all enthusiastic on those long shifts. He already has developed a fountain of knowledge with food and drink and always thrives to learn more when we change the menus. A favourite amongst our diners as he always brings a smile to your table.
